이 X-염색체 유전자의 변이는 효소 결핍을 일으켜 성연관 Mucopolysaccharidosis Type II (Hunter Syndrome)를 유발합니다.
Iduronate-2-sulfatase는 인간 arylsulfatases A, B, C 및 glucosamine-6-sulfatase와 높은 서열 유사성을 가지며, 여러 대체 스플라이싱 전사 변이체가 보고되어 있습니다.
