Target Information
The DAXX gene encodes a multifunctional protein found in both the nucleus and cytoplasm. It interacts with various proteins, including apoptosis antigen Fas, centromere protein C, and transcription factor E26 oncogene homolog 1.
In the nucleus, DAXX acts as a transcription repressor binding to sumoylated transcription factors, and its repression can be relieved by sequestration into promyelocytic leukemia nuclear bodies or nucleoli.
In the cytoplasm, DAXX may regulate apoptosis. Its localization and function are modulated by post-translational modifications such as sumoylation, phosphorylation, and polyubiquitination.
Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
