DHCR24는 FAD(Flavin Adenine Dinucleotide)-의존성 산화환원효소로, 콜레스테롤 생합성 과정에서 sterol 중간체의 delta-24 이중 결합을 환원합니다. 이 단백질은 소포체 막으로 이동하도록 하는 리더 서열을 포함하며, 이 유전자의 missense 변이는 desmosterolosis와 관련이 있습니다. 또한 Alzheimer 환자의 측두엽 피질에서 발현이 감소하며, 부신피질암 세포에서 과발현되는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
