Target Information
BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor) is a member of the neurotrophin family. It is synthesized as pre-proBDNF, followed by cleavage to proBDNF, and further processed to the mature 14 kDa protein. Both pro-BDNF and mature BDNF are biologically active and secreted in synaptic vesicles.
BDNF acts through TrkB and p75-NTR receptors, promoting neuronal survival, differentiation, and synaptic regulation. It plays a crucial role in memory formation and is reduced in Alzheimer’s and Huntington’s disease. BDNF also participates in stress response and mood regulation.
