Product Specific Information
MA5-15800 targets CEA in indirect ELISA, IHC, and WB applications and shows reactivity with human samples.
The immunogen is a purified recombinant fragment of human CEA expressed in E. coli.
MA5-15800 detects CEA, which has a predicted molecular weight of approximately 77 kDa.
Target Information
CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal gut development and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and other tumors.
CEA belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family, containing one N domain and six constant-like A and B domains.
Antibodies to CEA assist in identifying the origin of metastatic adenocarcinomas and differentiating pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% are CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+).
CEA is a glycoprotein and a useful tumor marker for adenocarcinomas of endodermally derived digestive system epithelia and fetal colon.
Two subgroups—CEA cell adhesion molecules and pregnancy-specific glycoproteins—are located within a 1.2 Mb cluster on chromosome 19, along with 11 pseudogenes of the CEA cell adhesion molecule subgroup.
Originally described in bile ducts, CEA functions as a cell-cell adhesion molecule found on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia.
It mediates adhesion via homophilic and heterophilic interactions, contributing to tissue structure, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation.
Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all full-length forms have been defined.
