This antibody binds to the alpha 4 subunit of alpha 4 Beta 1 (also known as very late antigen 4 [VLA-4] or CD49d-CD29) and alpha 4 Beta 7 integrin.
Target Information
Natalizumab is a recombinant, humanized monoclonal antibody that binds to alpha4beta1-integrin and blocks its interaction with vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1). It can be used for the treatment of relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis and Crohn’s disease. Natalizumab is the first targeted therapy that blocks an essential mechanism for lymphocyte entry to the CNS, thus preventing acute demyelinating relapses.
