This antibody is specific for the sequence PGEEDLP, which is repeated several times between the 61st and 96th amino acid residues of human carbonic anhydrase IX’s PG domain.
Target Information
Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbonic acid, protons, and bicarbonate ions. It is abundant in mammalian tissues and plays a critical role in pH regulation.
CA IX is highly inducible under hypoxic conditions via HIF-1 alpha and serves as a reliable histochemical marker of hypoxia due to its membrane localization and stability. Inhibition of CA IX increases cell death under hypoxia, highlighting its biological importance.
