Target Information

Ribonucleases (RNAses) H are enzymes that hydrolyze the RNA strands of RNA/DNA hybrids. Their main role is to remove RNA strands from RNA/DNA hybrids formed during DNA replication and repair. RNAse H2 consists of three subunits, all essential for enzymatic activity.
Mutations in RNAse H2A or other subunits have been linked to Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome (AGS), a neurological disorder resembling viral brain infections with elevated IFN-alpha levels in cerebrospinal fluid. Similar phenotypes are seen with TREX1 mutations, suggesting that RNAse H2 and TREX1 share roles in preventing accumulation of intracellular nucleic acids that trigger innate immune responses.
