Target Information
Leukocytes adhere to blood vessel endothelium during extravasation in postcapillary venules of lymph nodes and at sites of inflammation. This process involves a cascade of adhesion receptors, including selectins and immunoglobulin superfamily members.
E-selectin (CD62E) is an endothelial cell-specific selectin expressed only after activation with proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, TNFα, and bacterial components like lipopolysaccharides, through an NFκB-dependent pathway.
E-selectin is associated with endothelial activation in diverse inflammatory conditions.
