Target Information
Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a pleiotropic, immune-modulatory cytokine produced by activated T cells and serves as a ligand for the interleukin 4 receptor. IL-4 exhibits a broad range of biological activities. The interleukin 4 receptor also binds IL-13, contributing to overlapping functions of these cytokines. STAT6, a signal transducer and activator of transcription, plays a key role in mediating IL-4’s immune regulatory signaling. The IL-4 gene is located on chromosome 5q within a cytokine gene cluster that includes IL-3, IL-5, IL-13, and CSF2. IL-4 is positioned near IL-13, and these genes are co-regulated by long-range elements over approximately 120 kilobases. IL-4 delta 2 is a known splice variant of IL-4.
