PA1-1753 detects presenilin 2 protein (PS2) from human, rat, and mouse samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects an approximately 66 kDa protein representing PS2.

The immunogen is a mixture of synthetic peptides corresponding to residues Y(319)DPENEEDSYDS(330) and G(349)EELEEEEEEERGV(360) of human PS2.

Target Information

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients with inherited forms of the disease often carry mutations in the presenilin proteins (PSEN1 or PSEN2) or the amyloid precursor protein (APP).
These mutations lead to increased production of the longer form of amyloid-beta, a major component of amyloid deposits found in AD brains.

Presenilins are believed to regulate APP processing through their effects on gamma-secretase, an enzyme that cleaves APP.
They are also thought to be involved in the cleavage of the Notch receptor, potentially regulating gamma-secretase activity or acting as protease enzymes themselves.

Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms of PSEN2 have been identified.
