PA1-1752 detects presenilin 1 protein (PS1) from human, rat, and mouse samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures, detecting an approximately 66 kDa PS1 protein.
The immunogen consists of synthetic peptides corresponding to residues K(311)–E(322) and E(342)–R(353) of human PS1.

Target Information

Presenilin 1 is a marker of susceptibility to early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Along with PEN2, nicastrin, and APH-1, Presenilin 1 forms the γ-secretase complex, a membrane-bound aspartyl protease that cleaves proteins within the lipid bilayer.
This cleavage is crucial for signaling from cell-surface receptors and for generating amyloid peptides involved in Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis.
Presenilin 1 cleaves the amyloid precursor protein (APP) within its intramembrane region, producing either non-toxic p3 or toxic Aβ peptides.
Accumulation of Aβ peptide is linked to Alzheimer’s disease progression.
Multiple isoforms of Presenilin 1 are known.
