Target Information
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are nucleic acid binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins associate with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While most hnRNPs are nuclear, some shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The protein encoded by this gene has two quasi-RRM domains that bind RNAs and localizes to both nucleus and cytoplasm. It is implicated in mRNA stability regulation. Alternative splicing results in four transcript variants.
