This antibody detects endogenous levels of total Secretin protein.
Target Information
Secretin belongs to the glucagon family and functions as an endocrine hormone. It is primarily produced by endocrine S cells in the proximal small intestinal mucosa. The release of active secretin is stimulated by fatty acids or an acidic pH in the duodenum. Secretin promotes secretion of bicarbonate-rich pancreatic fluids and regulates growth and development of the stomach, small intestine, and pancreas. Deficiency of secretin has been linked to autistic syndrome, suggesting a neuroendocrine role beyond digestion.
