Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family, which regulates various cellular processes such as cell growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
PTPRT is a receptor-type PTP with an extracellular region, a single transmembrane region, and two tandem intracellular catalytic domains. The extracellular region includes a meprin-A5 antigen-PTP domain, Ig-like, and fibronectin type III-like repeats.
The domain structure and expression pattern of the mouse homolog suggest roles in both signal transduction and cellular adhesion in the central nervous system.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct proteins have been reported.
