Target Information
The ARID1A gene encodes a member of the SWI/SNF family with helicase and ATPase activities, involved in chromatin remodeling and transcription regulation. The encoded protein is part of the large ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex SNF/SWI, essential for transcriptional activation of genes typically repressed by chromatin. It includes:
- A DNA-binding domain recognizing AT-rich sequences at the beta-globin locus
- A C-terminal domain that stimulates glucocorticoid receptor-dependent transcriptional activation
This protein confers specificity to the SNF/SWI complex and may recruit it to target genes via protein-DNA or protein-protein interactions. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
