TENM3 단백질은 신경 발달에 관여하며, 신경계 내 적절한 연결 형성을 조절합니다. 축삭 유도와 동종세포 간 부착을 촉진하며, 시각 경로 발달에 중요한 역할을 합니다. 특히 망막의 시상핵(dLGN)과 상구(SC)로의 동측 맵핑 형성을 조절합니다. 또한 하악 과두 연골의 표층 섬유모세포 유사 세포가 연골세포로 분화하는 과정에 관여할 수 있습니다.
