Target Information

LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis. LIPG plays a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency elevates HDL cholesterol levels in animals.
LIPG exhibits phospholipase activity and is involved in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It belongs to the TG lipase family, characterized by a lid region that determines substrate specificity. LIPG acts as a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, and is essential for efficient digestion of dietary fats. It can also bind to heparin.
