Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions locally at the site of synthesis. LIPG plays a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency elevates HDL cholesterol in animals.
LIPG exhibits substantial phospholipase activity, contributing to lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. It is a carboxyl esterase that hydrolyzes high-density lipoproteins, emulsifies triglycerides, and aids in dietary fat digestion. LIPG can also bind to heparin and is classified within the TG lipase family based on its sequence and substrate-specific lid region.
