Target Information
ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is a key protein involved in autophagy and apoptosis.
It participates in mitochondrial quality control, antiviral immune response regulation, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Following conjugation to ATG12, the complex contributes to autophagosome formation and autophagic cell death through interaction with FADD.
The ATG5–ATG12 conjugate also modulates innate immune signaling by interacting with RIG-I and VISA, affecting type I interferon production.
Dysfunction of ATG5 is associated with diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia.
