LRP1 단백질은 세포 내 신호전달, 지질 항상성, 세포사 제거 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여하는 내포성 수용체입니다. 이 단백질은 A2M 매개에 의해 분비된 아밀로이드 전구체 단백질 및 베타-아밀로이드의 제거에 필수적이며, 이는 알츠하이머 환자의 아밀로이드 플라크 주요 성분입니다. LRP1 유전자의 발현은 나이에 따라 감소하며, 알츠하이머 환자의 뇌 조직에서 정상 대비 낮게 나타납니다.
