Product Specific Information

The TS2/9 antibody recognizes human CD58 (Lymphocyte Associated Antigen-3, LFA-3). CD58 exists as both a transmembrane and a GPI-linked extracellular protein, and cells can express both forms concurrently. Soluble CD58 has been observed in serum, urine, and synovial fluid of rheumatoid arthritis patients. CD58 is expressed on non-hematopoietic and most hematopoietic cells.

Binding to its ligand CD2 on T cells initiates signaling pathways that result in cytokine release. CD58 plays key roles in cell adhesion, T-cell activation, cytokine production, and cytotoxicity. The TS2/9 antibody can induce signaling upon crosslinking, with the epitope located in domain 1 of the immunoglobulin region.

Target Information

The CD58 gene encodes a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that functions as a ligand for the T lymphocyte CD2 protein. It mediates adhesion and activation of T lymphocytes and localizes to the plasma membrane. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
