Product Specific Information

This antibody specifically recognizes human androgen receptor (AR) and cross-reacts with mouse and rat AR.

Target Information

The androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid-hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. It is a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Upon ligand binding, AR translocates to the nucleus, dimerizes, and activates transcription of androgen-responsive genes.
AR signaling is critical for the development and function of male reproductive organs such as the prostate and epididymis and also functions in nonreproductive tissues including muscle, hair follicles, and brain.
Abnormalities in AR signaling are associated with diseases such as prostate cancer, Kennedy’s disease, and male infertility. Mutations in this gene can cause complete androgen insensitivity syndrome (CAIS).
