The GSTA1 gene encodes an enzyme involved in conjugating glutathione to electrophilic compounds such as carcinogens, drugs, toxins, and oxidative stress products. The gene is part of a cluster on chromosome 6 and has multiple transcript variants due to alternative splicing.
