Target Information
FIBB is the beta component of fibrinogen, a blood-borne glycoprotein composed of three pairs of nonidentical polypeptide chains.
Following vascular injury, fibrinogen is cleaved by thrombin to form fibrin, the main component of blood clots.
Various fibrinogen and fibrin cleavage products regulate cell adhesion and spreading, exhibit vasoconstrictor and chemotactic activities, and act as mitogens for several cell types.
Mutations in the FIBB gene can lead to afibrinogenemia, dysfibrinogenemia, hypodysfibrinogenemia, and thrombotic disorders.
