Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) plays a key role in transporting cholesterol from the cytoplasmic outer membrane to the inner mitochondrial membrane. The 37 kDa precursor is cleaved to generate an active 28 kDa protein that facilitates cholesterol metabolism into pregnenolone. StAR is predominantly expressed in mitochondria of steroid-producing adrenal and gonadal tissues. Abnormalities in StAR gene expression contribute to autosomal Lipoid Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (LCAH), resulting in defects in pregnenolone and cortisol synthesis. The exact mechanism of cholesterol binding to StAR remains to be elucidated.
