Target Information
Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism in plasma and is a component of various plasma lipoprotein-lipid particles. It is synthesized in the liver, brain, spleen, and kidney, with high concentrations in interstitial fluids. ApoE mediates cholesterol transport between cells and is essential in the formation of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicrons. The ApoE gene is located on chromosome 19 at position 19q13.2.
