WDR41은 C9orf72-SMCR8 복합체의 비촉매 구성 요소로, 이 복합체는 구아닌 뉴클레오타이드 교환 인자(GEF) 활성을 가지며 자가포식을 조절합니다.
C9orf72-SMCR8 복합체는 GDP 결합형 RAB8A 및 RAB39B를 활성형 GTP 결합형으로 전환시켜 오토파고좀 성숙을 촉진합니다. 또한 ULK1/ATG1 키나아제 복합체와 상호작용하여 단백질 키나아제 활성을 억제함으로써 자가포식 개시를 음성 조절합니다.
