Target Information

TLR3 (Toll-like receptor 3, CD283) is a member of the Toll-like receptor family that plays a fundamental role in pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity. TLRs are highly conserved from drosophila to humans, recognizing pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) expressed on infectious agents and mediating cytokine production for effective immune responses.

TLR3 is abundantly expressed in placenta and pancreas, mainly in dendritic leukocyte subpopulations. It recognizes double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) associated with viral infection, activating NF-κB and type I interferon pathways. Unlike other TLRs, TLR3 signals through TRIF rather than MyD88, leading to activation of IRF-3 and NF-κB, promoting type I interferon induction and dendritic cell maturation. TLR3 recognizes viruses such as Influenza A and West Nile Virus and may play a crucial role in antiviral host defense.
