Target Information

This gene encodes a centrosomal protein required for regulation of centrosome-related events during the cell cycle and for ciliogenesis. The encoded protein has an N-terminal leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain with six consecutive repeats and a C-terminal coiled-coil domain. It interacts with the catalytic domain of polo-like kinase 4 (PLK4) and colocalizes with PLK4 at the distal end of the centriole. Mutations in this gene lead to defects in primary cilia causing retinal degeneration and sensorineural hearing loss, associated with cone-rod degeneration disease and Usher syndrome. Low expression is linked to poor prognosis in colorectal cancer patients.
