Target Information

The CEP78 gene encodes a centrosomal protein required for regulation of centrosome-related events during the cell cycle and for ciliogenesis. The encoded protein contains an N-terminal leucine-rich repeat (LRR) domain with six consecutive LRR repeats and a C-terminal coiled-coil domain. It interacts with the N-terminal catalytic domain of polo-like kinase 4 (PLK4) and colocalizes with PLK4 at the distal end of the centriole. Mutations in this gene can cause primary cilia defects leading to retinal degeneration and sensorineural hearing loss, associated with cone-rod degeneration disease and Usher syndrome. Low expression of CEP78 is linked to poor prognosis in colorectal cancer patients.
