Target Information

Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) is a proinflammatory cytokine expressed by monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. It is synthesized as a 31 kDa inactive pro-form that accumulates in the cytosol and is cleaved into an active 17 kDa form through inflammasome activation. IL-1β lacks a classical signal peptide and is secreted via a noncanonical pathway. It signals through IL-1RI and IL-1RII receptors, shared with IL-1α, and its activity is modulated by IL-1 Receptor Antagonist (IL-1RA). IL-1β is critical for innate immune defense and inflammation, and elevated levels are associated with chronic inflammatory diseases.
