Target Information
The type I interferons, IFN-alpha and IFN-beta, are a group of structurally and functionally related proteins induced by viruses or double-stranded RNA. They confer an antiviral state in cells. IFN-alpha and IFN-beta share a common receptor (IFN-alpha/betaR), which binds effectively to IFN-beta and several IFN-alpha subtypes. This receptor is expressed as two alternatively spliced transcripts, IFN-alpha/betaR1 (IFNAR1) and IFN-alpha/betaR2 (IFNAR2), both involved in signal transduction and ligand binding.
