Target Information
ITAGV encodes integrin alpha chain V. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain.
The I-domain containing integrin alpha V undergoes post-translational cleavage to yield disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, which combine with multiple integrin beta chains to form different integrins.
Among the known associating beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, and β8), each interacts with extracellular matrix ligands. The αVβ3 integrin, also known as the Vitronectin receptor (VNR), is one of the most studied.
Integrins are involved in adhesion and signal transduction. The ITGB3 protein encodes integrin beta chain β3, found along with the alpha IIb chain in platelets.
Integrins participate in cell adhesion and cell-surface mediated signaling.
