Target Information

The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, reversing their death repressor activity. Its proapoptotic activity is regulated through phosphorylation by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and dephosphorylation by calcineurin. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
