Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death. This protein promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, thereby neutralizing their anti-apoptotic activity. Its pro-apoptotic function is modulated by phosphorylation, involving kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, as well as phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
