STAT5 alpha는 STAT 전사인자 계열의 구성원으로, 사이토카인 및 성장인자 자극에 따라 수용체 관련 키나아제에 의해 인산화되어 핵으로 이동하여 전사 활성화자로 작용합니다. IL2, IL3, IL7, GM-CSF, erythropoietin, thrombopoietin 등 다양한 리간드에 의해 활성화되며, 종양 발생과 생리적 기능(생식, 수유, 면역, 성장)에 관여합니다. STAT5 alpha와 STAT5 beta는 높은 서열 유사성을 가지며 대부분 조직에서 함께 발현됩니다.
