Target Information
This gene encodes a single-pass type I membrane glycoprotein with two Ig-like C2-type domains and an Ig-like V-type domain.
It is a plasma membrane component of adherens junctions and serves as an entry receptor for certain mutant strains of herpes simplex virus and pseudorabies virus.
It is involved in cell-to-cell viral spreading, and gene variations are associated with multiple sclerosis severity.
Alternate transcriptional splice variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized.
