Target Information
Bnc1 is a 994 amino acid transcription factor specific for squamous epithelium and keratinocytes at an early differentiation stage. It contains three pairs of zinc fingers and a nuclear localization signal.
Bnc1 can shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm depending on cell proliferation status. It is expressed in the basal cell layer of the epidermis, hair follicles, and germ cells of testis and ovary, with lower expression in thymus, spleen, mammary glands, placenta, brain, and heart.
Phosphorylation on Ser-537 and Ser-541 induces cytoplasmic localization. Reports suggest roles in keratinocyte proliferation, rRNA transcription, and differentiation of spermatozoa and oocytes.
