Target Information
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide.
They participate in respiration, calcification, acid-base balance, bone resorption, and formation of aqueous humor, cerebrospinal fluid, saliva, and gastric juice.
Human CA5A encodes the CA V protein, expressed in the mitochondrial matrix of liver and other tissues.
In ureagenesis, CA V may supply bicarbonate to carbamoyl phosphate synthetase.
