Target Information

FOXP3 (Forkhead box protein 3) is a transcriptional regulator belonging to the forkhead/winged-helix family, essential for immune homeostasis. It is 381 amino acids long and expressed at high levels in CD25⁺ CD4⁺ regulatory T cells, lower in CD4⁺/CD25⁻ cells, and absent in CD4⁻/CD8⁺ T cells. FOXP3 acts as a master regulatory gene and a specific marker for regulatory T cells. Mutations in FOXP3 cause the scurfy phenotype in mice and IPEX syndrome in humans. Expression of FOXP3 in human breast and colon cancer cells is regulated by p53 in response to DNA damage.
