Target Information
PTBP1 belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). These RNA-binding proteins complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and influence pre-mRNA processing, metabolism, and transport. PTBP1 contains four quasi-RNA recognition motif (RRM) domains that bind RNAs and interact with intronic polypyrimidine tracts essential for pre-mRNA splicing. It may facilitate U2 snRNP binding to pre-mRNAs and is localized in the nucleoplasm and perinucleolar structures. Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
