Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between pH 4.9 and 7.8.
Each epithelial type expresses specific cytokeratins that reflect both tissue type and differentiation state. Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are valuable for distinguishing epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies are useful in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, as well as in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays.
