Target Information
The TAP2 gene encodes a membrane-associated protein belonging to the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. These proteins facilitate the transport of various molecules across cellular membranes. TAP2 is part of the MDR/TAP subfamily, which contributes to multidrug resistance and antigen presentation.
TAP2 forms a heterodimer with ABCB2 to transport peptides from the cytoplasm to the endoplasmic reticulum. Mutations in TAP2 may be linked to ankylosing spondylitis, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and celiac disease. Alternative splicing results in two isoforms with differing peptide selectivity and MHC class I surface expression restoration.
