Target Information
The activation of gene transcription is a multistep process triggered by transcription factors that recognize enhancer sites in DNA. These factors cooperate with co-activators to initiate transcription via the RNA polymerase II complex.
The TFE3 protein is a subunit of the CRSP (cofactor required for SP1 activation) complex, which, together with TFIID, is essential for efficient SP1-mediated transcription.
TFE3 also participates in other multisubunit complexes, such as thyroid hormone receptor-associated proteins, facilitating receptor function on DNA templates.
It contains a bipartite nuclear localization signal and is known to escape X-chromosome inactivation.
