Target Information
The activation of gene transcription is a multistep process triggered by transcription factors that recognize enhancer sites in DNA. These factors cooperate with co-activators to direct transcriptional initiation by the RNA polymerase II complex.
The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the CRSP (cofactor required for SP1 activation) complex, which works with TFIID for efficient activation by SP1. It also participates in other multisubunit complexes such as thyroid hormone receptor-associated proteins that facilitate TR function on DNA templates.
This protein contains a bipartite nuclear localization signal, and the gene is known to escape chromosome X-inactivation.
