Target Information
Mast Cell Chymase is a chymotryptic serine proteinase belonging to the peptidase family S1. It is expressed in mast cells and plays roles in extracellular matrix degradation, submucosal gland secretion regulation, and generation of vasoactive peptides. In cardiac and vascular tissues, it converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II, contributing to blood pressure regulation and cardiovascular pathology such as hypertension, cardiac hypertrophy, and heart failure. This gene is located on chromosome 14q11.2 within a cluster of protease genes.
