Product Specific Information

Anti-IL-6 antiserum detects recombinant and native IL-6 present in body fluids and cell supernatants in various assays (e.g., IL-1 stimulated IL-6 production from fibroblasts).
This product has minimal reactivity with mouse IL-6.
Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. The protein acts as an endogenous pyrogen, inducing fever in autoimmune diseases or infections.
It is expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and triggers transcriptional inflammatory responses via the interleukin 6 receptor alpha.
IL-6 function is implicated in inflammation-associated diseases such as diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Elevated IL-6 levels are observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
Diseases associated with IL-6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.
