• Store vial at -20°C prior to opening.
• Aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below for extended storage.
• Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing.
• Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
• Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid.
• Dilute only prior to immediate use.

The antiserum is directed against mature 17,000 MW human TNFα and is useful in determining its presence in various assays. It also detects primate TNFα using similar dilutions but does not recognize human TNFβ (lymphotoxin).
Recognizes the cell-bound precursor of TNFα (26,000 MW) in immunoblots, particularly in denatured samples.
Useful for neutralization of human and primate TNFα activity in bioassays.
For neutralization, incubate the sample with a 1:200 dilution of antibody for at least 4 hours before testing. A control of similarly diluted normal rabbit IgG is recommended.

Target Information

TNF alpha is a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine belonging to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. It is mainly secreted by macrophages and binds to receptors TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR.
TNF alpha regulates immune cell activity, cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and coagulation.
It typically forms multimers (dimers to pentamers) and shows a single 17 kDa band under non-reducing SDS-PAGE conditions.
Knockout studies in mice suggest its neuroprotective role and tumor necrosis activity.
TNF alpha is involved in immune responses to bacterial, viral, parasitic, and fungal infections and plays roles in tumor necrosis and various diseases, including autoimmune disorders, insulin resistance, and cancer.
