Target Information
The proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered ring-shaped 20S core structure. It consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two alpha and two beta rings). Proteasomes are abundant in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway. The immunoproteasome variant plays a key role in class I MHC peptide processing.
This gene encodes a 20S core alpha subunit belonging to the peptidase T1A family. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
